petro1The Escalante - 5 Days / 4 Nights

The Escalante River has it all - plentiful arches, ancient ruins and petroglyphs, colorful history, and the best hikes around. One thing it doesn't have is lots of campsites, so you'll really appreciate your guide's expertise.  It is remote country, so spend some time in this unique area. Water taxis are an additional charge of approximately $2000 total, not per person.

On John Wesley Powell's first expedition down the Colorado, he missed the Escalante River completely. It was the last river to be charted in the USA. So yes, the Escalante River is remote. It also happens to have some of the finest canyons anywhere.  You'll visit LaGorce arch in Davis Gulch, then bushwack back to the last known campsite of artist Everett Ruess.  Floating by the ancient Three Roof Ruins will be a definite highlight.  Our favorite is Explorer Canyon.  Its riches aren't always easy to find, but scattered within you'll discover ruins, petroglyphs, arches, and the most vivid colors imaginable.  Come discover what Powell missed!

Your guide will design an itinerary based on your group's interests and abilities.  In general, you can expect under 30 miles of paddling and two half day walking excursions.   Camping conditions are unpredictable in the Escalante, due to the sheer walls in most locations, variable water levels, and drifting rafts of driftwood.  Rest assured, we'll always find a place, but come mentally prepared for more effort in finding and making a campsite each night.

Please arrange a time to stop by our office in Page the day before departure to pickup drybags and review final details.  There are bathroom facilities at the landing.  A camp toilet will be provided during the tour.

Price includes guide, equipment, and all meals and snacks. Park entrance fee ($15 per vehicle) and water taxi not included. Fare for water taxi is an additional $2000 total (not per person),but will vary depending on the group size.  Add an extra day for $100 per person, which will allow you to visit famous Hole in the Rock!
